iOS 26 Liquid Glass: Apple’s Biggest Design Overhaul Since iOS 7

Apple’s WWDC 2025 opened with a visual bombshell: iOS 26 Liquid Glass — a complete redesign that transforms every element of the OS with a translucent, fluid design language. The dock, control centre, notification banners: all reimagined. It’s Apple’s most significant visual overhaul since iOS 7 in 2013, and the biggest design bet the company has made in over a decade. Initial reactions are a mix of awe and adjustment.

Liquid Glass dynamically adapts its transparency and blur based on the content beneath it, creating depth and dimensionality that feels futuristic. The same design system extends across iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and watchOS 12 for unprecedented visual consistency across Apple’s platforms. When the iPhone Air launched in September, Liquid Glass was its centrepiece.

Beyond design: Apple Intelligence gets a context-aware Siri that understands what’s on your screen and can act across apps, improved Writing Tools with tone matching, deeper ChatGPT integration, and a redesigned AI-triage Mail app. iOS 26 developer beta available immediately; public beta in July; full release alongside iPhone 17 in September.
