Gamescom 2023 in Cologne delivered one of the most stacked Opening Night Live shows in the event’s history. Geoff Keighley’s pre-show packed in over 40 reveals and updates, with the Alan Wake 2 extended gameplay trailer drawing the loudest reaction of the night. Remedy’s survival horror sequel looks extraordinary — a genre-defining blend of psychological horror and Remedy’s trademark meta-narrative storytelling.
Mortal Kombat 1 showed its roster in full ahead of its September launch. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was revealed as a Ubisoft Montpellier side-scroller — a delightful surprise. Skull and Bones finally got a firm release date. And Baldur’s Gate 3, fresh off its PC launch to universal acclaim, confirmed its PS5 release date.
On the show floor, ASUS ROG showcased a new generation of gaming laptops powered by AMD Ryzen 7000 and Intel Raptor Lake Refresh. Razer and SteelSeries both had impressive peripheral lineups. And Qualcomm’s Snapdragon booth demonstrated the company’s expanding gaming footprint — from Snapdragon G3x gaming handhelds to Snapdragon-powered Windows gaming laptops.
Gamescom 2023 was the year that proved the event’s full return to relevance. See you in Cologne in 2024.
