Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit 2024 delivered something historic: the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the company’s first chip featuring a custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU architecture rather than ARM Cortex cores. This is the most significant mobile CPU shift in years — the same Oryon architecture that powers the Snapdragon X Elite PC chips, now scaled for mobile.
The results are extraordinary. Prime cores clock at 4.32GHz — the fastest ever in a mobile chip — delivering a 45% CPU performance jump over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Adreno 830 GPU is 40% faster. Most significantly, the Hexagon NPU delivers 45 TOPS of on-device AI compute, enabling real-time image generation, LLM inference, and multimodal AI tasks entirely without a cloud connection.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also debuts LPDDR5X RAM at 9600Mbps and UFS 4.0 Gen 2 storage — the fastest mobile memory subsystem ever. Expect this chip in the Galaxy S25, Xiaomi 15, OnePlus 13, and OPPO Find X8 launching in Q4 2024 and Q1 2025.
Qualcomm just redefined what a mobile chip can be. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is a landmark.
