PAX West 2024 opens in Seattle’s Convention Center South one day after Black Myth: Wukong shattered Steam records — and the energy on the show floor is extraordinary. This year’s event feels like a celebration of gaming’s cultural moment: indie developers, AAA publishers, and gaming celebrities packed the expo halls for a long weekend of demos, panels, and community.
The indie showcase floors are particularly strong: Wanderstop by The Molasses Flood, Hades II Early Access feedback sessions, and several unannounced games generating pre-show buzz. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Gaming booth — a growing presence at PAX events — featured its Snapdragon G Series gaming handheld demonstrations and new Snapdragon-powered Android gaming devices showing the latest mobile gaming capabilities.
The panel programming was exceptional: “AI in Game Development: Opportunity or Threat?” drew one of the largest panel audiences in PAX West history. The indie community’s concerns about generative AI’s impact on game art and writing were front and centre — a conversation the industry must have honestly.
