Rockstar Games broke the internet today. The first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI dropped — 11 years after GTA V — and it became the most-watched gaming trailer in YouTube history within 24 hours, surpassing 90 million views. After years of leaks, speculation, and one of the largest source code breaches in gaming history, GTA VI is real and it looks extraordinary.
The trailer confirms Vice City — Rockstar’s fictionalised Miami — as the setting, now depicted in lush, modern detail with an Everglades-adjacent landscape, beachfront mansions, and a city skyline that breathes with life. The visual fidelity is genuinely unprecedented: the draw distance, crowd density, and water simulation shown are beyond anything the current generation has produced.
The most significant reveal: GTA VI will feature the franchise’s first female protagonist in Lucia, alongside a male counterpart in what appears to be a Bonnie-and-Clyde-inspired criminal partnership. The Miami Vice aesthetic is turned up to maximum, with neon, palm trees, and social media commentary woven through the narrative.
A 2025 release window is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The gaming event of the decade just became very, very real.
