Game Awards 2022: God of War Ragnarök Wins GOTY, Alan Wake 2 and Hades II Revealed

Game Awards 2022 God of War Ragnarok

The Game Awards 2022 crowned God of War: Ragnarök as Game of the Year, and the result felt inevitable. Santa Monica Studio’s epic conclusion to Kratos and Atreus’ Norse saga was the most-played, most-discussed, and most critically acclaimed single-player game of the year. With a metacritic of 94 on PS5 and over 11 million copies sold in its first month, the GOTY award was a formality more than a surprise.

The night delivered more than just awards. Several major reveals lit up the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Alan Wake 2 was officially announced by Remedy Entertainment. Death Stranding 2 got its first real trailer. Hades II was revealed by Supergiant Games to thunderous applause. And Hollow Knight: Silksong finally reappeared with a 2023 release window hint.

Other notable winners: Elden Ring took Best RPG and Best Action Game, cementing FromSoftware’s exceptional year. STRAY won Best Indie and Best Debut Indie, a remarkable achievement for a game about a cat navigating a cyberpunk city.

The Game Awards has cemented itself as gaming’s Super Bowl night. The 2022 edition may have been its best yet.
