Meta just made the VR headset market significantly more accessible. The company announced a $100 price cut on both the Meta Quest 2 64GB and 128GB models, bringing them to $299 and $399 respectively. The timing is deliberate: with Sony’s PlayStation VR2 on the horizon and Apple’s mixed-reality headset rumoured for next year, Meta is clearly protecting its dominant market position.
And protect it they should — the Quest 2 remains the benchmark for standalone VR. Whether you’re playing Beat Saber, working out with Supernatural, or diving into social spaces like Horizon Worlds, the Quest 2 delivers a compelling all-in-one experience that no tethered headset can match for sheer convenience.
The price drop comes just months after Meta controversially raised Quest 2 prices by $100 in August, citing global inflation. The reversal signals that the pressure from competitors — and perhaps slowing adoption — is being felt at the top.
Looking ahead, the Meta Quest Pro is widely expected to be unveiled at Meta Connect on October 11, targeting enterprise and creative professionals with a premium mixed-reality device. Dropping the Quest 2 price now ensures the mid-market stays healthy while the Pro commands a premium.
At $299, the Quest 2 is now the most obvious entry point into VR. There’s never been a better time to jump in.
