Google has officially confirmed its “Made by Google” hardware event for October 6, 2022. The livestreamed event is expected to be one of the company’s biggest hardware moments in years, with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro taking centre stage alongside the eagerly awaited Pixel Watch — Google’s very first smartwatch.
The Pixel 7 series is expected to run on the second-generation Tensor G2 chip, Google’s in-house SoC developed in partnership with Samsung. Early teasers suggest meaningful camera upgrades, improved Night Sight, and better computational photography across the board. The Pro model is also rumoured to bring back the telephoto lens with enhanced zoom capabilities.
But all eyes may really be on the Pixel Watch. After years of speculation, Google is finally entering the wearables race with a circular, Wear OS-powered device that integrates Fitbit’s health tracking platform. Leak images show a polished, minimal design — a stark contrast to Samsung’s more aggressive Galaxy Watch aesthetic.
The timing couldn’t be more strategic: Apple’s Watch Ultra just dropped, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 is fresh on shelves, and Google needs to make a compelling case for its ecosystem in wearables. October 6 is circled firmly on the calendar.
