Apple launched products powered by its M5 chip in October 2025, marking the next generation of Apple Silicon with significant performance improvements across its Mac and iPad lineups.
The M5 processor debuted simultaneously in the iPad Pro, Vision Pro, and 14-inch MacBook Pro, delivering up to 12% higher multicore CPU performance compared to the M4 according to Geekbench 6 results. The new chip maintains Apple’s focus on power efficiency while pushing performance boundaries for creative professionals and developers.
Apple’s aggressive “Scary Fast” October launch strategy brought the M5 to market months ahead of typical yearly refresh cycles. The iPad Pro received particular attention with the addition of a portrait-orientation selfie camera alongside the existing landscape camera, addressing long-standing user requests for better video call framing in both orientations.
The Vision Pro update with M5 brings enhanced spatial computing capabilities, with Apple positioning the headset for broader consumer adoption beyond early adopters. Mass production of M5 Vision Pro units began in Q3 2025, with Apple targeting 150,000-200,000 units by year-end.
Industry sources indicate the M5 Pro and M5 Max variants for higher-end MacBook Pro models won’t ship in volume until early 2026, maintaining Apple’s staggered chip rollout strategy.
