Computex 2024: Copilot+ PCs Launch, Cristiano Amon and Satya Nadella Redefine the PC

Computex 2024 Snapdragon X Elite Copilot Plus PC

Computex 2024 in Taipei was dominated by a single story: the launch of Copilot+ PCs, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite took centre stage. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella joined Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon on stage for what felt like a generational moment: the first PC platform built from the ground up for AI, requiring a minimum of 40 TOPS of NPU performance.

The Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus chips — featuring Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores — were the stars of the show, with laptops from Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Microsoft’s own Surface lineup all announced simultaneously. Battery life claims of 22+ hours set a new benchmark. On-device AI features including Recall (a photographic memory for your PC), AI image generation in Paint, and live captions launched alongside the devices.

Intel and AMD responded with their own AI PC offerings — the Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake) and Ryzen AI 300 series — but at Computex 2024, Qualcomm owned the narrative. Cristiano Amon’s vision of Snapdragon as the dominant PC platform finally looked achievable.

Computex 2024 may be remembered as the moment the AI PC era truly began.
