PAX East 2023 takes over the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center for another packed four-day celebration of gaming in all its forms. As one of North America’s premier consumer gaming expos, PAX East delivers something the bigger industry shows often miss: the raw, passionate energy of the gaming community itself.
This year’s floor highlights include hands-on demos of upcoming indie titles generating enormous community buzz. Cassette Beasts, a Pokemon-inspired open-world RPG from Bytten Studio, drew hour-long queues. Sea of Stars by Sabotage Studio — a love letter to classic 16-bit JRPGs — had critics and fans raving in equal measure. And Remnant II by Gunfire Games showed a more ambitious sequel to the cult-hit Remnant: From the Ashes.
On the panel circuit, discussions about AI in game development, the economics of indie publishing, and accessibility in games drew standing-room-only crowds. The indie developer community at PAX is as vibrant as ever — and a reminder that the most exciting ideas in gaming often come from the smallest teams.
PAX East is where gaming’s future is spotted before it becomes mainstream. The 2023 edition delivered on that promise spectacularly.
