Windows 11 22H2 Update: Tabbed File Explorer and Smart App Control Arrive

The Windows 11 2022 Update (22H2) is now rolling out to all eligible PCs, and it’s the most substantial Windows 11 update since launch. The centrepiece is a revamped File Explorer with Tabs — one of the most-requested features by power users, finally delivered. Managing multiple folders simultaneously without juggling windows is a genuine productivity upgrade.

Alongside Tabs, the update brings Smart App Control — a zero-trust security feature that only allows trusted apps to run, catching malware before it executes. It works at the OS level without requiring third-party antivirus. Windows 11 is quietly becoming one of the most secure versions of Windows ever shipped.

Other highlights include improved Snap Layouts on smaller screens, live captions across the system for accessibility, and enhanced taskbar overflow for managing running apps. The update also improves performance on 12th Gen Intel and Ryzen 6000 series hardware.

For enterprise users, the rollout schedule is staggered based on hardware readiness. If you’re on a supported PC, head to Windows Update now. The tab-capable File Explorer alone is worth the upgrade.
