Apple announced the iPad Pro with M2 chip today — its most powerful tablet yet. The M2 brings a 15% faster CPU and 35% faster GPU compared to the M1 version, with the Neural Engine now processing 15.8 trillion operations per second. ProRes video recording is supported for the first time on a tablet, opening iPad Pro up to professional video workflows in a meaningful way.
But the headline feature is something new: Apple Pencil hover detection. The iPad Pro can now sense the Pencil up to 12mm before it touches the screen, enabling predictive ink and smarter tool palettes. For artists and designers, this is a genuinely transformative interaction model.
