IFA 2022: Smart Homes, OLED Flex, and a Green Tech Revolution in Berlin

IFA 2022 Berlin consumer electronics

IFA 2022 returns to Berlin in full physical form, and the show floor is electric after two pandemic-altered editions. With over 1,800 exhibitors across Messe Berlin, this is consumer electronics’ biggest showcase of the year — and the theme is clear: smart, connected, and sustainable.

Samsung opened strong with a new generation of its Bespoke home appliances and a preview of the Neo QLED 8K lineup for 2023. LG showcased its OLED Flex curved display — a world first — bending from flat to 135 degrees on demand. Sony revealed new WH-1000XM5 colour variants and a premium wireless speaker lineup. On the chip side, MediaTek used IFA to announce expanded 5G partnerships with European operators, while Qualcomm showed new Snapdragon Wear and IoT platforms for the connected home.

For sustainability enthusiasts, this IFA had more green-tech than any prior edition. Bosch, Miele, and Siemens all showcased energy efficiency improvements with A+++ appliances and AI-driven consumption management. The EU’s push toward right-to-repair legislation was visible in the messaging of multiple brands committing to extended product support and repairability.

IFA 2022 sets the tone for the Q4 product cycle. The home of the future is connected, efficient, and smarter than ever.
