- What is the Mercedes-AMG-Petronas F1 Team?
Mercedes-Benz / Daimler AG has its heyday in the 1930s with its ‘silver arrows’ to return to Formula in 1954-1955. Unfortunately, the 24h of Le Mans’ accident stopped their participation after having won 9 times on the circuit, including three Grand Prix (France, and 2x in Italy).
In 2009, several inverters decided to relaunch the brand in Formula 1 for the 2010 championship, first under Mercedes GP Petronas Formula One. From 2017, the Team changes its name to become the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1, AMG bought by Mercedes, thus allowing the famous Mercedes F1 W0x chassis to evolve into a Mercedes AMG F1 Wxx EQ.
The 2021 season has just started again, and the drivers remain the well-known Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
And so we end up with a Mi Electic Scooter Pro 2 chassis in the colors of Team F1 Mercedes-AMG Petronas.We will find the colors and the silver arrow on this edition.

So you will have seen that in terms of characteristics, it is precisely the Mi Electric Pro 2.
From a simple 2017 M365 (the very 1st with two fuses), it is day and night, but all in continuity. Whether its weight or its dimension, the differences are not that important. Thus, I remain on familiar ground.
If you are a fan of the brand and the F1 Team, it’s a slap in your face; I have to be honest, I’m wondering if I am one of the 5 (max? less?) in the US to get my hand on this special edition, making it also unique.
Since I received it at the end of the day, I’ll be frank I didn’t have time to ride with it, so that’s also why my first impressions and feedback on use will be missing from this unboxing.
There is a lot of paperwork. Even very surprised to see the CE certificates of conformity, the spare tire and inner tube, the extension for the inflator, and of course, the multilingual manual and all the warning stickers for safety.
We indeed tend to forget, but even at ten an hour, you have to be careful, wear your helmet.
If I had to compare it with the M365 2017, there are many upgrades. So far, I can tell, the lock, the folding system (no loose too), the mudguard, the reflectors, the place for a plate at the rear, the high beam much more powerful, even one screw more (in case of).
Clearly, a much better safety feeling with this 2021 version than with the 1st I got (even if I never had a problem with it).
On paper, I expect a lot more from the 300W motor (600W peak) vs my sluggish 250W, and the same for the autonomy (12.4KmAh vs 7.8KmAh). All combined, it should promise nice rides (So with the wind here, my weight, and in normal mode, I’m expecting around 30/35Km, I will see).
I was surprised to find a “Sidewalk” (or walking) mode. It is clear that in terms of legislation, Xiaomi has done a lot not to offend the local authorities here and there.
We’re not going to lie to each other; it’s great excitement to put your hand on a special edition that few people have, in partnership with a beautiful brand like Mercedes, and, at first glance, Xiaomi has retained the Mercedes spirit, tried to revive the silver arrows on a scooter (okay, 25Km/h is the maximum speed).
For the next steps, like the first connection, it will be classic via the Mi Home application (apart from activation, a new one for me). Bluetooth and Mi Home do everything; after a small Welcome video on safety instructions (essential), you will go through the activation process and firmware update if needed.As you can see below, only a few minutes and you are ready to ride.
For any fan of motorsports, which seeks to have the best products, and at all costs, Xiaomi offers a winning recipe in this area (yes, I know people who will pick up the mail on a scooter to avoid leaving the Shelby GT or even Jean Claude Van Johnson, google for the first episode).Besides, I almost want to leave her in the living room, and I will be a psychopath when I go out with her because it is clear that I will have many questions about this model.
The slogan ”Ride with the best” is relevant with this model, even if, in the end, I would not have the level of a Hamilton.
