Unity and Epic Games Partner to Bring Unity Games to Fortnite and Unreal to Unity Commerce

Unity and Epic Games announced a groundbreaking partnership on November 19, 2025 at Unite (Unity’s annual developer conference), enabling Unity games to publish into Fortnite and bringing Unreal Engine support to Unity’s cross-platform commerce platform in a move reshaping the competitive game engine landscape.

Developers will gain ability to publish Unity-built games directly into Fortnite, one of the world’s largest gaming ecosystems with over 500 million registered accounts, while participating in the Fortnite Creator Economy. This represents unprecedented collaboration between rival engine makers traditionally locked in fierce competition for developer mindshare.

Additionally, Unity will bring Unreal Engine support to its commerce platform, giving Unreal developers choice for managing digital catalogs, payment providers, and web shops across PC, mobile, and web. The commerce integration arrives early 2026, allowing Unreal developers to manage pricing, promotions, and live operations through Unity’s infrastructure.

Industry analysts view the partnership as strategic pragmatism: Unity gains distribution access to Fortnite’s massive player base, while Epic extends Unreal Engine’s commercial ecosystem and reinforces Fortnite’s position as a metaverse-like platform hosting third-party content beyond Epic’s own creations.

The announcement coincides with both companies facing market pressures—Unity recovering from 2023’s controversial runtime fee backlash, and Epic locked in ongoing legal battles with Apple and Google over app store policies and revenue sharing.
