Rivian unveiled the R2 in Laguna Beach today — a more compact electric SUV starting at $45,000, representing the company’s mass-market breakthrough. After competing exclusively in the $70,000+ premium segment, the R2 seats five, offers 300+ miles of range, and targets the mainstream SUV buyer. The smaller R3 hatchback was also teased. 100,000 pre-orders landed within 24 hours. Production at Rivian’s Normal, Illinois Gigafactory begins 2026.
