Samsung has confirmed what leakers have been saying for months: the entire Galaxy S23 lineup will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 globally — including markets that previously received Exynos variants. This is a massive shift for Samsung and a significant win for Qualcomm.
The decision follows widespread criticism of the Exynos 2200’s thermal performance and efficiency gaps compared to its Snapdragon counterpart in last year’s S22 series. Samsung’s own benchmarks reportedly showed the gap was too large to ignore. By going all-in on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Samsung ensures a consistent, premium experience for every customer worldwide.
Qualcomm is reportedly offering a customised variant of the 8 Gen 2 — clocked higher than the standard version — exclusively for Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series. If confirmed, this would make the S23 the fastest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device at launch. The Galaxy S23 Unpacked event is expected in early February 2023.
