Reuters launches Reuters IMPACT: An agenda-setting summit to mobilize global leaders on climate action

Reuters, the world’s largest multimedia news provider, announces agenda-setting leadership forum, bringing together world leaders, big business, and forward-thinking pioneers to inspire, drive action and accelerate innovation towards the global economy’s top priority: the climate emergency.

Reuters IMPACT (Oct 4-7) brings together more than 25,000 attendees to hear from the world’s leading political figures, scientists, CEOs, and activists to explore how mainstream business can drive the innovations and investments needed to change our future and deliver a clean and inclusive tomorrow. Developed in collaboration with Reuters award-winning newsroom, Reuters IMPACT will be broadcast live and will share strategies and perspectives on how businesses can play a role in averting the impacts of climate change.

Failure to limit global warming will cause significant disruption to business. No economy is immune to the impact, and no action is not an option. A Stanford University study predicts that by the end of this century, there is a more than 75 percent chance that limiting warming to 1.5 °C would reduce economic damages and a more than 60 percent chance that the accumulated global benefits will exceed US$20 trillion.

Alessandra Galloni, Editor-in-Chief, Reuters “Climate change is one of the defining stories of our age. Reuters is committed to reporting on our planet with integrity, independence, and freedom from bias. Reuters IMPACT is an opportunity to explore together all aspects of this critical issue of our time.”

The virtual summit is built upon five central, interlinked themes: Energy, Built Environment, Food and Land Use, Transportation, and Finance. Leading speakers at the first annual summit include:

  • Robert Downey Jnr., Actor, Entrepreneur, Investor & Founder, FootPrint Coalition
  • Inger Andersen, Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme
  • Al Gore, Former Vice President, United States of America
  • Jennifer Morgan, CEO, Greenpeace
  • Tengku Muhammad Taufik, President & Group Chief Executive Officer, Petronas
  • Nico Rosberg, Former F1 Champion & Sustainability Entrepreneur
  • Fiona Reynolds, CEO, UN Principles for Responsible Investment
  • Grant Reid, CEO, Mars

Reuters IMPACT follows the success of the inaugural Reuters Next leadership summit in January, which attracted more than 40,000 professionals from over 150 countries who came together to discuss future opportunities for change and growth, as well addressing the rifts and problems that our world and our societies face. Reuters Next returns 1-3 December, 2021.

The inaugural Reuters Next speakers included Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg; Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai; European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde; BBC Director General Tim Davie; Filmmaker Waad al-Kateab; Zoetis CEO Kristin Peck and AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes.
